What we're looking for
The Hardware team at Smartex is developing the next generation of AI-powered textile inspection systems for the textile industry. We are looking for a highly motivated Master’s Thesis Intern to help design and optimize lightweight, modular, and “plug-and-play” mechanical solutions for industrial inspection machines. You will work closely with experienced engineers on CAD development, prototyping, and mechanical validation in a real factory environment, contributing directly to the future of industrial AI systems and sustainable textile manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Design and optimize mechanical solutions for textile inspection systems.
- Develop CAD models and technical drawings for industrial hardware components.
- Support the prototyping and assembly of mechanical structures and mounting systems.
- Test and validate mechanical stability and system performance in real factory environments.
- Contribute to the development of lightweight and modular hardware architectures.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including AI, electronics, and production engineers.
- Analyze installation and maintenance processes to improve scalability and serviceability.
- Ensure compliance with industrial safety and manufacturing standards.
Skills & Experience
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of CAD software such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar.
- Interest in mechanical design, prototyping, and industrial systems.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and mechanical assemblies.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work on complex real-world engineering challenges.
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
- Interest in automation, robotics, or AI-driven industrial solutions.
- Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
